The Universal Language of Love

I am a firm believer that everyday is a celebration. There´s always an excuse to celebrate something each day  and the fact that you have a brand new day is a real blessing. This weekend was a particularly special few days filled with love, friends and family, all of whom I have barely known for a year but feels like forever.

Firstly, we celebrated the love of a special couple who had to travel half way across the world to find each other and then back again to the other side to stay together. Thanks to bureaucracy and red tape in this day and age, it is often difficult for such couples to be together; but they proved that where there is a will and a whole lot of love, there is a way. What touched me the most was that although there were families and friends from different sides of the globe and not a common language between them, somehow the communication without words was stronger. As our host said, the common language here was the one from the heart and that if people spoke from their hearts, no words were needed to decipher what they were trying to say. Of course there were four or five people translating at the same time during some of the conversations but that makes these events all the more interesting and fun!

And secondly, in the midst of all this, we got to celebrate a friend´s birthday, who like me, is here in Spain without her family. Opening up your home to other people and bringing them together like a family is a true testament of character and all the love and compassion they willingly share. This is not the first time I´ve experienced this and I feel truly blessed to have been "adopted" by so many wonderful families here. Perhaps some of the world leaders could´ve learnt a thing or two from that long table full of multi-nationalities and languages, happily co-existing together!

I spared a thought for all those who weren´t as lucky as I am; the ones who don´t have such friends, family and love in their lives, or who are lonely or persecuted. I´m not sure what it means to be human if you don´t share the universal language of love with others, which exists in so many forms, not just the romance of Hollywood.

So don´t be selfish with your love. Be a friend, a mother, a father, a sister or a brother to someone who needs it. Start today. You´ll realise that the more you give out, the more you get back. And that´s the real universal language of this world!
